About Us

The Story of a church with three churches. Our first building was built on Manor Road, Bermondsey, in 1865. It was hit by bombs twice during the war.

By 1955, a new church was built on the now Galleywall road to serve Manor estate.  The church ran several activities including summer Play schemes, Advice Centre, Lunch Club, Scouts and Guides. When the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) was disbanded much of the grants the church was receiving stopped. This affected several activities run by the church. Many people left and the building became deteriorated.

In 1994, a third attempt was made to rebuild Manor. It was decided the new building should be modest since Christianity was on decline in England and many parts of Europe. We decided to turn our new building to face Shuttleworths' play park since it offers a better view of the church from Southwark Park Road. Our current building was commissioned in December 2000. We give thanks to God that we still have a place of worship.

Jesus spoke powerfully about a grain of mustard seed, "which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof”. (Matthew 13:31-32).  We don't want to dwell on past glory, but we believe Manor can become just like the1950's when "the birds of the air will come and lodge on its branches"

In the mean time we are positioning ourselves to deliver every positive thing small church could offer; intimacy, loyalty, simplicity, identity, opportunity and many more.

We are part of Southwark and Deptford Circuit, in the London District of the Methodist Church.
